ELECTING to bat against Formby, Leigh Thirds put on 140 all out in 44 overs giving them two batting points.

Batting was not easy on a pitch that was breaking up but the Leigh batsmen showed a lot of determination in their efforts. Alex Roussak and Nick Jones were the main contributors with 30 and 31 respectively with some good support form everyone else but Will Banner in particular showed his steady improvement with a well compiled 26 towards the end of the innings.

Ross Shepherd and Will Banner opened the bowling for Leigh and contained the Formby batsmen to 22 in 10 overs. Billy Banner took over from Shepherd bowling 18 overs on the bounce ending with 5 wickets for just 14 runs. Different bowlers were used at the other end and all contributed by taking wickets at crucial times.

It had become evident that Formby had decided to play for the draw and played back a total of 21 maidens out of 46 overs. Leigh stuck doggedly to their task and took the chances that came their way resulting in a win in which everyone had played a part.
