A STRONG Golborne CC team were overpowered by Northern League Morecambe in the Lancashire Knockout.

Despite reducing Morecambe to 180 off their 45 overs, Golborne were bowled out for 135, losing by 45 runs.

Morecambe's innings revolved around grit and determination as most batters chipped in to the overall total. Yadav top scored with 35 and ex-South African international Langeveldt made 32. Golborne captain, Marston picked up three wickets in an innings that also featured three run outs.

In reply, Golborne lost Tyrer early as he was bowled by Stephens for one. Cooke (5), Shah (15) and Greenwood (17) also departed early as Crompton battled defiantly at the other end.

Once Crompton fell victim of Quinn for 33 Golborne never looked in contention and although Marston smashed 28 Golborne's innings came to a disappointing end.

Golborne 2nd XI recorded their first win of season after a omprehensive nine-wicket victory over local rivals Atherton.

Atherton were reduced to 122 all out batting first. Ormshaw picked up three wickets along with Makinson and Partridge who both got two a piece. Kelly (29) and Tomlinson (36) were the only real batters to score runs for Atherton.

Mercer was the star of the Golborne reply hitting 60 until Sproston bowled him. Carr (36) and Makinson (12) saw the game through for Golborne as they hope to follow this encouraging result with a similar performance this weekend.
