A BRAINY pub bunch are set to tackle the country's top quiz masters.
The six-strong team from the Cart and Horses, Astley, head for London on Friday to record a battle of the minds in the BBC 1 quiz "Eggheads".
Landlord Malcolm Hilton, Gerald Platt, Dave Foy, John Potter, Alan Cooper and Brian Robinson will bid to beat a team made up of TV quiz champs past and present, including the first TV Millionaire winner, a Mastermind and multiple 15-1 champ.
The show, hosted by Dermot Murnaghan, has a jackpot of £1,000 which rolls over until a daily challenger is successful.
Landlady Bessy Hilton said she saw an advertisement calling for teams and rang up. The side was called to an audition in Leeds and last week were told they had a spot on the show.
She said: "I think their good sense of humour and accents helped. We have a quiz night every Thursday and the customers and I picked the team. They are full of confidence that they can beat the champions.
"When we know the show is being broadcast we'll have a big party in the pub."
