DAVE McNiven is in negotiations with Leigh RMI after telling the club that he doesn't want to go anywhere next season.
Carlisle and Stevenage are rumoured to be among the clubs interested in the striker, whose goalscoring prowess was one illuminating feature on a
miserable Conference campaign for the Railwaymen last season.
McNiven could pen a deal to stay at Hilton Park on returning from holiday if the club can provide a suitable package of personal terms.
Leigh's ability to attract the former York City and Oldham frontman into an extension to his current deal shows the ambition of the club according to Chairman Bill Taylor.
"We have genuine aspirations to become a Football League side", said Taylor.
"We have great potential and we have shown that we want to progress because we want to move to a stadium that will hold 10,000 people and be good enough
for the Third Division", he added.
But Taylor also revealed that the club are still looking for a new sponsor ahead of the new season, which starts in eight weeks time.
"It's a great investment opportunity", claims Taylor. "The Conference has national exposure through Sky Sports and because the Conference League Cup is starting up again, sponsors will get more games for their money."
