DOUBLE VICTORY BOOSTER

WALSHAW celebrated a winning weekend when they followed up their emphatic league victory at Edgworth on Saturday by reaching the semi-finals of the Cross Cup, beating the present holders, Spring View, at home on Sunday.

Top scorer for Walshaw on Saturday was Gary Dyson with 44, backed up by Jon Fielding (35) and Bret Collins (25) and the total of 172 always looked too much for the home side to chase, particularly when they lost opener Davies to the first ball from Fielding; who finished with match figures of 7-45.

He was admirably backed up by Liam Riley (2-14 from eight overs) as Edgworth were bowled out for 80.

A high first innings score was always going to be necessary for Walshaw to succeed when they won the toss and elected to bat first against Spring View.

Opener Rob Faulkner led the way with his first century of the season; finally being dismissed from the penultimate ball of the innings on 101.

He was well supported by Jon Fielding (44) and a quickfire 38 from Glen Stephens.

After an early flourish by the Spring View openers, the Walshaw bowlers began to take control of the game with some tight bowling and wickets began to fall regularly.

Meanwhile, Tony Kelly and Bret Collins will turn out for the Bolton Association League inter-league side that takes on the Saddleworth League in the MEN Trophy on Sunday.
