A POST-MORTEM examination on a 15-week-old boy who died after falling asleep on a settee next to his mother has proved inconclusive.
Callem Burnett died in the early hours of Sunday next to his 17-year-old mother in a house in Cog Lane, Burnley.
The baby was taken to Burnley General Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
On Wednesday, pathologists carried out the examination at Manchester Children's Hospital, Pendlebury which failed to determine the cause of death.
Toxicology and histology tests were carried out and Callem's body was released back to the family for funeral arrangements to be made.
An inquest was due to open this morning, and Detective Sergeant Derry Crorken said the death was not being treated as suspicious.
He said: "We are not treating this case as suspicious. It is just a tragic accident."
