ENVIRONMENTAL health officers in Pendle are highlighting the importance of food safety to help combat the spread of disease.
Pendle Council is spotlighting the effects food poisoning can have. Stuart Arnott, the council's environmental health manager, said officers have to investigate cases of food and water-borne diseases, including typhoid, E-coli and salmonella.
He said: "For many of the individuals affected, this is just unpleasant. However, for risk groups such as the young and elderly these conditions can be lethal. I am sure people all too well recall the devastating effects that a serious outbreak of something like E-coli can have on people's lives and local communities."
Precautions include good personal hygiene, refrigeration, thorough cooking of food, and keeping raw and cooked foods apart.
