A PENDLE-based pressure group for riders is appealing for local historians to get in touch to support its campaign.

The Trawden Forest and Borders Bridleway Association was founded in March to campaign for bridleways to be opened and maintained.

Now it is appealing for local people to share their knowledge of old bridleways and horse trails in Laneshaw Bridge, Trawden, Cowling, Lothersdale and West Craven.

The group, which hopes to mount legal campaigns in support of bridleways, wants to gather information to enable members to try to get old routes re-opened and made accessible for riders.

Association spokesman Paul White said: "We would like people to get in touch to share their local knowledge because we know that there are old pack horse tracks and old bridleways around the area.

"We need to gather information about these routes and their locations if we are to try to get them re-opened."

Anyone who can help should call Paul on 07791 943563.

The group has planned a series of regular meetings and rides for members and non-members, and has discussed various ways of raising cash for legal work.

The next meeting will be at the Alma Inn, in Emmott Lane, Laneshaw Bridge, on June 30 at 7.30pm and will include a talk from horse masseuse Rebecca Mateo.

There is also an off-road pleasure ride on June 27 from Bolton Abbey. For an entry form, call Amanda on 01535 630917.
