A TIMELESS comedy in a timeless setting. Somehow it just feels right to be watching Shakespeare in the peerless surroundings of Hoghton Tower.
Evidence suggests that the Bard spent some time at the family home of the de Hoghton's.
If he had been around today, he would certainly approve of what's on offer for the next two weeks.
This promenade-style production offers the best of all world's -- a first rate and accessible interpretation of one of Shakespeare's most popular comedies and a magnificent setting to accompany it
As You Like it is a comedy based around deception, love and romance.
It doesn't matter if you are a seasoned Shakespearian or brand new to the Bard, you will enjoy this production.
Detailed programme notes help newcomers follow the story and a first-rate cast revel in the open air setting.
Unusually for Shakespeare, the central character is female and, Helen Longworth is a feisty Rosalind more than up to the task of holding the production together.
Other notable performances include Knight Mantell as the lecherous Touchstone who is part Frankie Howerd, part Kenneth Williams and constantly funny and Kathryn Worthington as Celia.
This is the second year running that Shakespeare has been brought to Hoghton Tower - and on this form it will become a permanent fixture in the calendar.
So don't forget your deckchairs, make the most of the surroundings and above all, enjoy.
As You Like It runs until Sunday, June 27.
