A SPORTS trophy will be created in honour of a tragic teenager from Tockholes.

Hundreds of mourners packed into St John Vianneys RC Church, Blackburn, yesterday to say goodbye to Chris Bradshaw, 16, who died at his home last week.

Chris, who lived in Tockholes Road with his parents Ian and Patricia and 14-year-old brother Luke, suffered a seizure in his bedroom and was found collapsed on the floor last Wednesday.

His sudden death shocked those living in Tockholes and Blackburn, where he lived until seven years ago, and staff at his former school, St Bede's High and St Mary's College, where he was a student.

Chris's former headteacher at St Bede's, John Challoner, revealed the news of the memorial trophy to the funeral congregation. He said: "A lot of people won't know but Christopher's father was one of the parents who contributed to our sports college, without any fuss. This will benefit many current and future pupils. So we now want to dedicate a trophy to Christopher which will be given annually to the pupil who continually does their best in PE and does it with a smile.

"Chris was very hardworking and always did it with a smile. His smile could light up a room. Chris was a friend to many people. He will always be remembered for his kindness."

Mourners included former teachers and schoolfriends. Mr and Mrs Bradshaw chose to place Chris's ashes at the grave of his grandfather and great grandmother.

An inquest into his death has still to be held after it was opened and closed for further tests.
