A RETIRED hotel manager said to drink a litre of whisky a day died of paracetamol toxicity because his liver function was compromised by the alcohol, an inquest was told.
Edwin Hall had been admitted to hospital and was being treated for alcohol withdrawal at the time of his death.
Andrew Thornton told the inquest that he called Mr Hall 'Uncle Eddie' and he and his girlfriend had moved into his home in Didsbury Street, Blackburn, and looked after him.
Mr Thornton said Mr Hall liked to have a drink and would easily get through a litre of whisky a day. He said he also took pain killers for stomach ulcers.
Pathologist Dr Richard Prescott said a post-mortem examination revealed fatty change to the liver.
He gave the medical cause of death as paracetamol toxicity contributed to by fatty liver.
Coroner Michael Singleton recorded a verdict of misadventure.
