A SEARCH was today under way for a married father-of-two who mysteriously vanished from his Burnley home almost two weeks ago.

The family of Mark Drummond have been left baffled and distraught by his disappearance earlier this month.

Mr Drummond, 42, left home in the Accrington Road area of town at around 11am on Wednesday, June 2, and has not been back since.

Detectives say they are clueless as to where he could be or why he has disappeared and are growing increasingly concerned.

His wife and two children, a 17-year-old son and 15-year-old daughter, have been unable to give police any reasons to explain the disappearance. The last positive siting was on Accrington Road between Burnley and Hapton at around 12.30 midday, near to the Wrought Iron works.

Police believe he may have visited the Bentley Wood Farm pub after that but they can't be sure.

Mr Drummond, who also worked in Blackburn, left home without his mobile phone, wallet or house keys. He was believed to be on foot, since he didn't drive.

A carpet fitter by trade, he had planned to work on the morning of his disappearance but the job was cancelled so he returned home, took a bath and then left the house.

He is described as 5ft 7in, with dark brown hair and a stubbly moustache and beard.

He may have been wearing dark tracksuit bottoms and T-shirt or jeans and a light T-shirt on the day of his disappearance.

Detective Inspector Steve Chard said: "We are growing increasingly concerned as Mark has not been seen for nine days and it is unusual for him to go missing.

"He left his wallet, mobile phone and house keys at home and none of his family have heard from his since.

"We would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen Mark over the past nine days to come forward.

"Indeed, if Mark sees this appeal, we would like him to make contact with either ourselves or his family to let us know that he is safe.

"Mark has lived in Burnley since he was 10 and is fairly well known in the town.

"But we simply do not know where he is or why he might have gone."

Anyone who spots Mark or who has any information that might help the police can contact Burnley CID on 01282 425001 or the National Missing Persons Helpline on 0500 700 700.
