DRIVERS who have fitted their own car stereo equipment are being warned to watch out for thieves in Brierfield.
Police believe a series of thefts from vehicles in various parts of the town could be linked.
CD players and auto-changers have been taken from four vehicles in the last two weeks.
The vehicles were all small cars usually driven by younger people and the rear quarterlights were smashed.
Police have advised people with costly stereo equipment to consider fitting alarms and have appealed for people who hear alarms sounding to look at the vehicle to see if anything suspicious is occurring.
Inspector Martin Holleran said: "We are targeting this problem at the moment and will be working in this area.
"The thief seems to be targeting cars which are usually driven by younger people, possibly because they will often fit their own stereo equipment.
"We would suggest people with expensive CD players and changers consider fitting an alarm. We would also ask that if people hear an alarm they should look out of their windows and if they see anything suspicious, contact police."
