ONE of the most spectacular eras in rallying will be remembered next week when Clitheroe and district motor club host a 'Group B' night.

The sport was dominated in the 1980s by hugely powerful rally cars such as the Audi Quattro, Metro 6R4 and Lancia Delta S4 -- until a series of fatal accidents brought about their demise.

And two of the works Audi Quattros, now owned by enthusiasts John Hanlon and Anthony Walker, will be on show at Waddington Social Club, near Clitheroe next Tuesday night.

The rally night, whch has been organised by club member and rally driver Gary Gee, also includes a film show and a question-and-answer forum.

"The pedigree is both cars is unquestionable," said Gee, who competes in an ex-works Talbot Sunbeam in the Slowly Sideways rally series.

"One was driven by Hannu Mikkola on the 1983 Tour of Corsica and the other is the famous 555 Beijing Rally Quattro.

"It promises to be an excellent night with some rare rally footage being shown for the first time."

The evening starts at 7-30pm with members and non-members welcome to attend.
