A BULL calf went on the run from a Bury farm before being cornered in a company car park.

The animal had been sighted at various locations in the town yesterday morning, before going through the main gates of the Europa House business premises in Barcroft Street.

There, its wanderlust was well and truly curbed when Europa House manager Joanna Mawdsley had the presence of mind to lock the gates and to call the police.

Two farmers and a police officer eventually rounded up the stray bull calf before it was returned to Ridings Farm, off Goldfinch Drive, from where it had escaped.

The bullock had roamed for more than a mile before eventually turning up at Europa House where it stopped to munch on some grass.

Joanna said: "There had been sightings of the animal in Parsonage Street and Wash Lane. I understand the bull calf had escaped late on Sunday. I suppose you could say it was our newest business occupier!

"It was running around the car park before it was eventually captured. It was there for around 90-minutes before being taken away."

Bury Police confirmed the bullock had escaped from Ridings Farm and that officers were alerted at 7.15am when it was discovered in the grounds of Europa House.
