PUPILS are holding silent tributes this week in memory of a popular teacher who was killed last month.
Children from each year group at Sharples School are observing a few minutes of silent reflection for the life of head of science David Kerslake, who was killed as he cycled home from work.
During each assembly this week, headteacher Kevin Clarke has been saying a few words in tribute to the dedicated 44-year-old teacher and a pupils have been delivering readings.
The school decided to hold the special assemblies each day because the pupils wanted to do something themselves to pay tribute to the teacher.
Mr Kerslake died on June 14 after a collision with a car in Crompton Way, Tonge Fold, as he cycled to his home in Radcliffe.
He was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital but died later of multiple injuries.
He has left a wife, Jacquie, and a three-year-old daughter.
At his funeral last week, Mr Clarke read out cards from pupils describing Mr Kerslake as "the best teacher in the world".
The school is planning to consult with Mr Kerslake's family and pupils about further ways they can commemorate his life.
