ACCRINGTON Stanley full back Steve Hollis has finally agreed a new deal for next season.

But goalkeeper Jon Kennedy has parted company with the club after talks for a full-time contract broke down.

The 23-year-old, who made his debut for the England National Game XI against Italy U23s in February following a number of good performances for Stanley, said he could not afford to accept the offer put to him, and the Reds were not prepared to raise the stakes.

But Kennedy, who recently returned from representing the National XI against the USA in Charleston, insisted there were no hard feelings.

"That's the way football is. What's best for the club isn't best for me and what's best for me isn't best for the club," he said.

"The most frustrating thing about it was not knowing one way or another what would be happening next season.

"After a such a good season last year, you think next year you can build on it.

"But now it's just an empty feeling.

"I'm not going to fall out with anyone about it though. If we can't agree, we can't agree. I said the offer wasn't good enough and they weren't willing to raise it."

Kennedy today started a two-day trial with Doncaster Rovers, and he has also had offers for trials from two Coca Cola League One, formerly Second Division, clubs.

While Stanley, who currently do not have a goalkeeper on their books, are keeping their fingers crossed that the work permit for Australian stopper Jason Petkovic is accepted.

Manager John Coleman said: "Jon isn't going to be staying because we couldn't come to an agreement, but that's football."

However, he was pleased to keep defender Hollis for another year.

"Steve showed his quality at the start of last season and, but for injuries, could have been our player of the year," Coleman said.
