REGARDING your correspondent's letter (July 3), there were four plaques in the foyer of the Old Town Hall, Blackburn, commemorating four local men, who were awarded the Victoria Cross. I do not know if any of these men were in the East Lancashire Regiment.
If these plaques are not there now, where are they?
I think that two of the crosses were awarded for bravery in the 1914-18 war and two in previous campaigns.
The names Grimbaldeston and Pitt come to mind.
I am unaware of any VCs awarded to local men in subsequent conflicts.
