PUPILS have been holding silent tributes this week in memory of a popular teacher who was killed as he cycled home from school.

Mr David Kerslake (44), of Hackney Close, Radcliffe, died on June 14 in Crompton Way, Bolton, after a car collided with his bike.

Pupils from each year group at Sharples School, Bolton, where Mr Kerslake was head of science, have been observing a few minutes of silent reflection during special assemblies.

Cards from schoolchildren at his funeral described him as "the best teacher in the world". The school is planning to consult with Mr Kerslake's family and pupils about ways of commemorating his life.
