AN EAST Lancashire cricket club hopes to knock its cup final opposition for six with its own rendition of a football chant classic.

Burnley club Lowerhouse has penned its own version of Fat Les' 1998 England football World Cup song Vindaloo to mark next month's clash with Haslingden in the final of the Worsley Cup,

The last time the club reached the final of the prestigious Lancashire League cup was in 1980 and it has never won it in its 142 year history.

To celebrate winning a place in the final the team has recorded Wot Fot Doo - Lancashire dialect for 'what's going on' - and the lyrics have been penned by club member Tony Woodworth.

The song is being sold on CD to raise funds for the club - and raise spirits for the big game on Sunday, August 8.

Club secretary Stan Heaton said: "It is a bit of fun and will hopefully raise a bit of money. But we are all friends down there, it is a really family-orientated club and we enjoy doing anything that raises people's spirits.

"We thought we would follow in the FA cup football tradition of recording our own song to celebrate getting to the finals."

Their opponents Haslingden have decided not to retaliate in the recording studio.

Club chairman, Mark Rothwell, said: "This is a really big event for them and I can see why they have done it. We will not be challenging them vocally, but we will be challenging them on the pitch."

Supporters can buy the CD from the Lowerhouse club, priced £5.
