HAPTON Parish Council is on its traditional break this month. The next Parish Council meeting is on Tuesday, August 3 from 7pm. Councillors are hoping that plans to improve recreational facilities in the village will be unveiled at the meeting.

RESIDENTS have complained that road works on Manchester Road, in Hapton, have severely affected traffic flow through the village.

They say traffic lights on the railway bridge have caused heavy traffic to back up very quickly which has blocked side streets too. Complaints have also been raised about noise and fumes.

A spokesman for McAlpine contractors said residential repairs had to be carried out to the road surface but disruption would be kept as low as possible.

RESIDENTS have been upset at the number of trees being damaged by children and urged parents and carers of children to ensure their children respect the environment.

A PLANNING application has been received by Hapton Parish Council for a single storey extension and conservatory to be added to one of the houses being built on the Fox estate in Hapton.

Parish councillors have previously raised concerns about the size of this site because of the extra traffic it will cause to join the main road directly opposite the village school.

Hapton Parish Council has not objected to the plans, but parish councillors will continue to press for traffic control if problems arise as the houses are sold.

HAPTON'S village school celebrated its closure for the summer holidays with a Year 6 leavers' service.

This included entertainment by pupils and the presentation of bibles and awards for academic, sporting and community achievements.

After the service Year 6 were taken to the Burnley Bowling Alley and McDonalds by Sue Cornell, headteacher.
