I was delighted to pick up a valuable 23 points on Saturday at New Brighton which helped us move nicely up the table writes Dave Dove

Particularly pleasing for me was the attitude and commitment shown by the batsmen after quite a poor start. Liam Zammit led the way, with Ronnie Davis, Steve Williams and Greg Jennings all making valuable contributions later on enabling us to post a very respectable score.

Ronnie Davis ripped through their early order before the spin of Zammit then took over to cap a fine all round performance as our Aussie claimed vital wickets and, indeed, took the catch to secure a good win as New Brighton tried, but failed, to save the day.

The Lancashire Cup is special insofar as there is always an edge to try and prove that Leigh, in the Liverpool Competition is better than the opposition, but playing away to Kendal from the Northern League on Sunday was always expected to be tough.

Posting a total of 190 with a very slow outfield was a fine effort. Once again this was due to the application of some of our batsmen, particularly the strokeplayers including Steve Mullaney, Gareth Cross and Liam Zammit who all appreciated the situation and knuckled down to make valuable contributions.

I felt confident with the score and even more so after the opening burst of Ronnie Davis and Greg Jennings just destroyed their top order. After that it was just a matter of time and whilst the inevitable win was delayed as our own standards dropped a little, I wouldn't want this to overshadow an excellent performance and a good weekend.
