ATHERTON CC lost ground in the chase for the Bolton Association title after a mixed weekend of results.

Beaten by six wickets at Standish on Saturday, Atherton recaprured something of their best for the following day with a four-wicket win at neighbours Daisy Hill.

Neil Bannister was unlucky to finish on the losing side at Standish after producing the biggest score of the day with an unbeaten 91.

Lee Childs added 34 not out but Atherton's 179-4 proved little trouble for Standish as Rob Turnbull batted right through for 69 not out.

Philip West was equally impressive with the bat on Sunday, hitting 110 not out in the four wicket win at Daisy Hill. Howard Brooks top scored for Daisy with 64.

Spring View and Astley and Tyldesley produced a high scoring game on Sunday before View claimed their eight-run win.

Batting first, Spring View totalled 228 with pro Arindam Sarkar 88 and Rob Turnbull 42, while Simon Maiden providing a flourish at the end with 28 not out.

In reply, A & T went for the runs from the start with deputy pro Hernon Fernando from Central Lancs League side Middleton, leading the way with 67. Barry Waterworth was not far behind with 62, but in the end, A & T ran out of steam and were all out for 219, John Green claiming 3-32.

On Saturday fifth bottom Astley and Tyldesley beat third bottom Edgworth. Steve Walsh was the A&T star as he claimed six of the eight home wickets to fall. In reply, A&T also lost eight wickets -- pro Adam Syddall taking 4-67 -- but managed one more run that Edgworth's 134.

The closest finish was at Golborne where the second bottom placed home team needed a big hit off the last ball against Standish to claim their third win of the season. They managed two runs and finished two short of the 151 victory target with one wicket remaining. Nigel Geary hit 43, Steve Knowles 32 and John Waddington 29 in Standish's 150-7, Rehman Shah taking 3-39 for Golborne.

Golborne were looking good at 60 without loss as openers Ian McMillan hit a quick 36 and Dale Pyrer a steady 25 before pro Shah top scored with 41. But Mike Crookson and Steve Knowles took three wickets apiece to set up the thrilling last ball climax.
