BARRY Kilby has again insisted Burnley are not prepared to serve up Richard Chaplow on a plate.

First Division rivals Leeds United are determined to continue their pursuit of the Clarets midfielder, despite seeing two bids rejected - the second totalling well over £1m.

Reports surfacing in Yorkshire now claim that Burnley chairman Kilby is ready to sit down with Elland Road chiefs and discuss a new offer for the 19-year-old, who was one of the few highlights of last season's dismal campaign at Turf Moor.

However, Kilby rubbished those rumours and insists he will not be swayed by such scaremongering.

He said: "I am still going to speak to Richard and his parents in the very near future and I can assure supporters we are not going to just grab the money and run.

"We are talking about a lot of money for Burnley Football Club to turn down, but I really need Richard to become a valuable part of the team here, certainly for the next couple of years.

"I want him to play in the Premiership as much as the next man, but I want him to do that with Burnley, not Leeds."

Kilby has backed up his words with action, trying to tie the England U21 ace to a lucrative new deal despite having two years remaining on his present contract.

Every player has his price, however. And with Leeds seemingly awash with cash, despite reported debts of around £80m, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that United will up the ante once more in their quest for Chaplow's signature.

Another top earner, defender Dominic Matteo, yesterday sealed a move to Blackburn in a deal that will save the Yorkshire club an estimated £35,000 per week in wages.

And with James Milner, Alan Smith, Mark Viduka, Paul Robinson, Michael Duberry, Jason Wilcox, Michael Bridges and Nick Barmby all joining Leeds' summer sale to help slash a top-heavy wage bill, new manager Kevin Blackwell has been promised funds to rebuild for another tilt at the top flight.

BURNLEY were today handed a trip to Bury in the first round of this season's Carling Cup competition.

The Clarets had been hoping for a home tie after being drawn away from home in all three ties last season.

However, they must again hit the road for the short trip to Gigg Lane to face the Shakers in the week commencing Monday, August 23.

Burnley's Coca Cola championship game with Derby County in October has been moved forward a day for live TV coverage.

The Clarets were initially due to play the Rams at Turf Moor on Saturday October 23, but the match will now be screened on Sky on Friday October 22, 7.45pm).

Burnley's first televised home game in over a year will net the cash-strapped club £60,000.
