THERE'S a great opportunity to try sailing for fun and for free at Pennington Flash!

Anyone from the age of five upwards is welcome to give sailing a try under the supervision of qualified RYA instructors between 10.30am and 3.30pm on Saturday, July 17.

Basic shore based lessons will preceed time afloat with newcomers being taken out in boats with experienced sailors.

A normal club race begins at 2pm so people can watch what is happening in the club. There will be a canteen, picnic area, changing facilities and the sailing club bar will be open later.

"People should be prepared to get wet -- and should bring a change of clothes -- suitable to the weather on the day. We are raising money for the RNLI -- so any donations would be gratefully received. Visitors will include Leigh MP Andy Burnham who is bringing his son to support the event," said Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club Vice-Commodore Caroline Exley.

People should register their interest by phoning 0781 200 9215 or 01924 407710.
