ROTARY Club of Atherton President Roger Benson has handed over to Colin Mickleburgh.
Mr Mickleburgh, who takes a second term of office, is also District Secretary for District 1280 which covers the Atherton area.
This year, Rotary International celebrates its hundredth anniversary. In that time, the organisation has grown to over a million members worldwide in 165 countries. The organisation does much charitable work in conjunction with the World Health Association.
In Atherton, members support many local schools. Every year, they collect in Market Street for the Wigan Hospice, Christies Hospital and Macmillan Nurses. Members also erected two benches for public use in Atherton's main street after pedestrianisation.
Worldwide, the Atherton Club have supported overseas projetcs such as the building of an orphanage in Romania, eye clinics in India, funded a cow for the 'Buy a Cow' scheme in Africa and funded emergency boxes for worldwide disasters like the recent earthquake in Turkey.
Rotarians are proud of their achievements and are always on the look out for new members. If you are interested in joining, please contact your local club ecretary who will be pleased to explain more about what Rotary International do.
