MEMORIES of old Radcliffe should be included in the town's new super school, residents say.

It has been estimated that the new state-of-the-art Radcliffe Riverside School will be ready for opening in 2007. And people living in the town say they would like to see some parts of the old town incorporated into the new development.

At Monday night's meeting of the Radcliffe Area Board, at the Radcliffe Civic Suite, members of the public suggested that the Walker Allen window from the former Radcliffe Town Hall should be displayed in the school.

The window was given to the town by Walker Allen's cotton mill in 1935, to celebrate Radcliffe receiving its charter.

Mrs Diana Morton, the school's executive head, told the meeting: "It would be nice to include items from the town in the site. Other residents have mentioned having this window incorporated into the school building, and the paper mill has also asked if we would like to display items such as the old roll-of-honour from their old building.

"I would like to take parts of the old schools to the new site as well, like the clock tower from Radcliffe High School. We are looking forward to 2007 but we are not forgetting the children on the two sites now.

"There is still quite a lot going on at both sites and we are hopeful about the future."

From September, Radcliffe High and Coney Green Technology College will operate as the Radcliffe Riverside School on the two sites in Abden Street and Spring Lane until the new £15 million school opens.
