THE great clean-up of Pendle's canal corridor has begun.
In the first blitz, six volunteers helped to tackle the canal towpath and surrounding area between Lob Lane Bridge, Clitheroe Road, Brierfield, and Lomeshaye Road canal bridge, Nelson.
Community groups and residents have been asked to join in the three canal recycling/clean-up events which are supported by Pendle Council's Neighbourhood Pride and British Waterways.
They cover the three deprived wards of Brierfield, Whitefield and Bradley. The clean-ups are part of a Project, the "Tacklers' Trails", which aims to establish four Industrial Heritage Trails connecting the canal, cotton and community, in and around Brierfield and Nelson.
The next two clean-ups are on Saturday, August 14, meet at 10am, at Lomeshaye Road canal bridge, Nelson and on Sunday, August 22 - meet at 10am, Seedhill canal bridge, Pendle Street, Nelson.
Those taking part will receive a Pendle Canal Corridor T-shirt and refreshments.
Residents from the community are also encouraged to come to the next Tacklers' Trails Group meeting in the Members' Room in Nelson Town Hall on Monday, August 16, at 2pm, for a presentation on the History of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal by Andrea Davies; as well as to attend two National Heritage Week activities.
