IT may be that bowler Charl Langeveldt has played his last game for Morecambe this season, as he has been called up for the South African squad.

If so, it will be a game too late for Preston as he destroyed their victory hopes by taking seven wickets on Saturday for 68 off 21 as Preston were bowled out for 146.

It was only down to the heroics of Preston's number 10 batsmen Johnstone who scored an unbeaten 73 that they reached a total of any respectability.

In reply, Hird, 58 and Hetherington (29 not out) were the top scorers for Morecambe as they won by six wickets.

Leyland put up a spirited performance at Chorley with young pace bowler James Wright claiming five wickets for 55 runs off 13 overs.

His victims included England under 19 star Tom Smith who top scored with 89 before the home side declared after reaching a total of 216 for 9.

Leyland never quite looked like reaching the target but batted well being eventually bowled out for 169 with professional Moin-ul-Atiq with 22, captain Alex Mercer with 43, and Afsar (31) were the highest scorers for Leyland.

Leyland Motors faced a tough away trip to Darwen and were bowled out for just 72 with Neil Cordingley taking 4 for 16 off 11.

In reply, Darwen knocked the runs off in 20 overs losing two wickets in the process with opener Jackson scoring 53 not out.

The good news for Leyland is that they have qualified for the semi-final of the Thwaites Smooth Bitter League Cup when they came away with a victory from Barrow in their final group game.

Leyland batted first and reached 189 for 8 with Afsar 39, Alex Mercer 33 and James Wright 33 top scorers. Steve Pallet hit five fours for his 20.

The home side were then bowled out for 143 with young James Wright returning excellent figures of four for 31 off seven overs and Suma taking four wickets for 21 off seven overs.

Preston are at home to Barrow on Saturday while Leyland Motors host Netherfield. Leyland have no match.
