FEARS of job losses because of cost-cutting at a Blackpool hospital are unfounded, the hospital says.

Possible movement of staff at Blackpool Victoria Hospital into new roles to save money prompted fears that job losses may be looming, but a hospital spokesman said there were no plans to shed staff.

"There are no plans for redundancies in any areas of the trust, though it is possible some staff may be redeployed to other areas and some employment vacancies may not be filled," he said.

"In common with many NHS Trusts we are dealing with significant financial pressures this year. To keep within our budget a trust-wide establishment review is currently under way to identify potential cost reductions."
