DECISION-making seems to have been causing problems for Ribble Valley councillors in recent months.

First there was all the controversy over repeatedly unsuccessful attempts by Muslims in Clitheroe to find a building which they could use as a mosque.

Now the council could face criticism from the Audit Commission for failing to make a decision about selling its housing stock.

Under government rules, the council has until July to make up its mind about whether to sell its 1,225 homes to a registered social landlord as so many other local authorities have already done.

The jury of tenants elected by a panel of up to 50 fellow tenants as part of the normal procedure has voted in favour of a sell off.

But after being told that a sale would cost the authority money councillors deferred the matter and are not due to discuss it again until May next year.

The council's leader said: "There were too many questions unanswered to proceed."

Tenants now fear a final decision might not be made before the government's July deadline.

The subject may be complex but surely it will not take so long to come to decision and let the tenants know where they stand.
