BUS company First is calling a temporary halt to plans to redevelop its depot facilities in Bury.

The firm has withdrawn plans for The Rock Triangle, which had already been outlined for rejection by planners.

Proposals by property group Morbaine Ltd and First PLC included plans for leisure and shopping facilities, as well as homes, to be built off Rochdale Road.

The scheme was closely based on a proposal submitted by development firm Westfield, which was approved by Bury Council in July.

In addition, the alternative First plan proposed the construction of a food store on the site of Bury's York Street bus depot.

The proposal was withdrawn after moves to find a new home for the bus depot were put on hold. Planners had also argued that the supermarket plan would exceed researched shopping capacity for the area.

The matter had been due for consideration by members of Bury's planning control committee Tuesday 14th.

A spokesman for First said: "The planning application has been withdrawn for further consideration, but the general thrust of building a new depot and redeveloping the current site still exists."
