WALKING the well-worn path between Summerseat and Ramsbottom town centre has always been a pleasure to me, but one recent Sunday it was made doubly pleasurable by the presence of Besses Boys Band, who were playing traditional seasonal music at Ramsbottom station.
For me, there is something so 'very right' about brass bands here in our part of the world and Ramsbottom, with its history of textiles and paper making and its grey stone buildings amidst acres upon acres of moorland, is the perfect setting.
The natural skill and exuberance of the young players, combined with the attendant support of parents and friends of the band, was like a breath of spring on what was otherwise a typically dull November day.
