COLNE's Municipal Hall is being officially relaunched as 'The Muni' in a bid to widen the venue's appeal.

The hall has been known as the Muni for many years by locals and the new look hall will be unveiled today alongside the launch of the new Spring 2005 programme.

Some cosmetic improvements have been made, as well as back stage changes to improve conditions for visiting artists and community groups.

Organisers said they want to ensure The Muni is established as a venue catering for community needs as well as for entertainment.

Alison Goode, who has led the re-development said: "The character of the Muni, a beautiful old theatre has not been changed and it remains an intimate venue with superb acoustics that has the versatility to be set up as full theatre style seating or a more casual cabaret style.

"We are looking to expand on our past successes and ensure we offer a balanced and varied entertainments programme that offers something for everyone with a choice of family shows, classical and modern music, sitting alongside comedy, festivals and exhibitions."

A 'Friends of the Muni' scheme has been launched with members and a guest invited to the bi-annual brochure launch events, the first of which will take place today.

Alison said: "We are looking for our Friends of the Muni to play an active part in our development and ensure they have their say on future artists booked at the Muni."

Members will receive a discount on bookings made throughout the year as well as priority booking. The Spring brochure is on sale to members from today and will be on sale to the general public from December 17.

The Lesser Muni will be opened as a Members bar on selected shows and happy hours have been put in place for some performances.
