ACCRINGTON will have to beware one of their old boys as they seek to put their Nationwide Conference play-off push back on course.

Stanley travel to Leigh RMI tomorrow knowing they need to take three points to ensure they stay in the pack hunting a play-off place prior to the Christmas period.

But waiting for them at Hilton Park is ex-Reds striker Gary Williams.

While the striker, who had spells at the Crown Ground in 1999 and again between 2001 and 2003, has only three goals to his name with the Railwaymen this term he may have supplied inspiration to the strugglers.

Rock-bottom RMI gained a midweek boost as they registered a 1-1 draw with Scarborough and Williams was the man to hit their late equaliser.

With just one win this term, the point was a welcome bonus for Leigh and Stanley know to their cost that even struggling sides can spring the odd unpleasant surprise.

The Reds have a perfect Conference record against their Lancashire rivals having notched three straight wins against the Railwaymen, but RMI blew apart any hopes Stanley had of a money-spinning FA Cup run this season as they turned up at the Interlink Express Stadium and dumped Accrington out of the fourth qualifying round by a 2-0 margin.

However, Stanley boss John Coleman is more concerned about his own side just rediscovering the ability to win.

A 1-0 reversal at Forest Green last weekend was followed in midweek by a 2-1 home defeat to high-flying Carlisle, but Coleman is not about to press the panic button.

"We have had the lion's share of the ball and the chances in our games of late," said Coleman.

"But we have lost those games and that is something we have got to do something about.

"It is not that we are playing badly. In fact we are playing well, but we just need to win a game.

"Obviously we want that sooner rather than later, but it is up to us to make it happen."

Former Leigh keeper Paul Crichton looks set to face his old employers, but Coleman will bide his time over the fitness of experienced central defender Mike Flynn, who is carrying a knock.

"Paul has had the 'flu, but it looks as though he should be fit," said Coleman.

"Our main problem is that Mike is still a doubt, other than that we have no real concerns."

Stanley have also taken on Polish midfielder Pawel Wozniak on a trial basis during the week, but Coleman felt he needed to take a longer look at the 26-year-old.

Wozniak, who has moved into the area, carries all the credentials to be a good addition to the squad having represented his country to under 21 level and having played for Zaglebie Lubin and Legia Warszawa.

"To be honest yesterday was the first real chance we had to have a look at Pawel in training." admitted Coleman.

"We will have a longer look at him over the next few days, so he is not really in line for a game just yet."

Leigh boss Geoff Lutley, who recently replaced Phil Starbuck in the Hilton Park hotseat, has been working hard to strengthen the Railwaymen's squad.

This week he has brought on board Steven Skinner and Ryan Clarke - his first signings since taking over as Leigh manager.

Defender Clarke, 20, has signed on a month's loan from Football League outfit Boston, while Skinner joins after spending last season with Scottish Third Division side Cowdenbeath.

However, Lutley's bid to sign former Stockport defender Alex Lord, who had been at Northwich on non-contract terms, looks to have fallen through.
