POLISH trialist Pawel Wozniak is a welcome arrival at the Interlink Express Stadium.

Club officials who had not met the striker understandably had concerns that there might be communication problems.

However, they didn't expect them to come from Wozniak, who speaks perfect English, and is having problems of his own understanding broad Scouse!

A club insider said: "It's great to have Pawel around - we understand him more than we do the Liverpool lads!"

Wozniak's arrival at Stanley is one of those curious coincidence that could reap real rewards.

The 26-year-old arrived in England with his wife, who gained a job as a high-flyer working in computers in Burnley.

When he chanced his arm to cold-call the club in the hope of winning a trial, Reds bosses could have been forgiven for believing he was just another fly-by-night trialist seeking an ego boost.

So the look on John Coleman's face must have been a picture when Wozniak handed over a CV that includes a spell playing for crack Polish outfit Legia Warsaw.

Big boost for Eric

STANLEY chairman Eric Whalley had an extra spring in has step this week as he counted the pound notes following the impressive season's best 3,024 crowd that attended Tuesday's home game with Carlisle.

Stanley chiefs are cock-a-hoop that around 1,700 Reds fans turned out to supplement the large travelling contingent from Cumbria.

And they are hoping for more financial cheer when Halifax Town make the Boxing Day trip over the border for a Roses clash expected to attract another 3,000-plus crowd.
