A SPECIAL meeting is being held for residents concerned about youth nuisance in an Accrington park.

As a temporary solution to the problems being caused by young troublemakers in Oak Hill Park the Hyndburn councillor for Barnfield ward, Paul Barton, has been locking a gate in Hollins Lane every night and unlocking it in the morning.

But while this has made some residents feel safer others believe it has just forced the problems onto the street near their homes.

At a meeting of the Peel and Barnfield Area Council it was decided that to try to reach some agreement on how to tackle the problem a special meeting should be arranged between the ward councillors, the police and local people.

One resident living near to the gate said: "When that gate has been unlocked they are using it to get into the park."

Coun Tony Dobson suggested a special public meeting to discuss the issue in more depth. Residents will be notified once a date and a venue has been set.
