JEAN-Louis Valois has revealed he turned down offers from Spain and Scotland to sign a new short-term contract until the summer with Burnley.

The French winger hopes three months of hamstring hell are now behind him after playing 45 minutes as a substitute for Graham Branch in Saturday's goalless draw with Reading.

And with Branch, as well as Michael Duff struggling to face Liverpool tomorrow with an ankle injury, and James O'Connor ineligible, Valois looks like celebrating his new deal with a starting role against the Reds.

The 31-year-old revealed: "I had no problem with the hamstring and now I'm looking forward to putting the injury behind me and doing my best for the club.

"The gaffer said he wanted to sign me until the end of the season and I was happy to do that.

"I had the opportunity to go to a Spanish club and a Scottish club, but I want to play here."

Fellow Frenchman Amadou Sanokho has, however, left the club after failing to agree terms for the rest of the season.

Sanokho, who started one game against Spurs in the Carling Cup, was a substitute a further 18 times but only appeared on three occasions.

Meanwhile, Clarets boss Steve Cotterill has admitted speaking with West Bromwich Albion manager Bryan Robson as speculation over Richard Chaplow's Burnley future mounts.

Albion are keen to sign the England U20 ace after hitting a brick wall in their efforts to sign Argentine midfielder Matias Almeyda from Italian side Brescia.

However, Cotterill revealed that the Baggies have not yet submitted any formal offer.

He said: "I have spoken to Bryan a couple of times and it is a delicate situation at the moment. The ball is probably in West Brom's court on that one, certainly not in ours."

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is unlikely to feature at Turf Moor tomorrow when manager Rafael Benitez will again field an inexperienced side. Gerrard has a chest infection that he struggled with against Manchester United at the weekend.

Supporters are reminded there will be no cash admission at the turnstiles tomorrow night and tickets need to be bought in advance. However, the ticket office will be open on the evening of the game for sales.
