NELSON came back from a goal down to see off the challenge of New Mills in an enthralling end-to-end encounter at Victoria Park.

The visitors took the lead on the half-hour when Stacey Wild outpaced the Nelson defence and beat keeper Billy Carrington with a low shot.

The Blues responded with plenty of pressure and it paid off just before half-time when Millers' keeper Steve Lyons was forced into pulling down Jason Jones as he found himself with space in the penalty area.

Paul Barrett drove home the resulting penalty to level the scores on 42 minutes.

Nelson began the second half strongly and deservedly took the lead after 62 minutes when Neil Chapman's cross was turned home from just four yards out by the predatory Paul Barrett for his second goal of the game.

New Mills tried desperately to get back on level terms as the Blues failed to capitalise on their slender lead.

But Nelson made sure of the win with four minutes remaining when Craig Bradshaw headed home Brad Pates' cross.
