CLITHEROE gained a well-deserved point at play-off chasing Brigg with a solid team performance.

The Blues made a good start with Paul Stansfield opening the scoring after just three minutes. Picking up the ball inside the Brigg half he ran unchallenged before placing a well struck shot past the goalkeeper from the edge of the area.

Clitheroe should have doubled their lead just before the half-hour mark when Steve McDonald was released one on one with the goalkeeper. He slipped the ball past the Brigg stopper but saw the ball travel wide of the post.

On 32 minutes, another neat finish saw the home side draw level. A cross into the area was punched clear by Kris Richens to the edge of the area but, unfortunately for him, it fell kindly for Brigg captain Steve Housham who lofted the ball back over him and into the net.

Chances after this were few and far between for both teams, although Stansfield almost scored again but couldn't quite reach a free kick into the penalty area.

New signing Craig Sargeson showed some impressive touches on the ball but wasn't presented with a clear sight on goal all game. But as his sharpness improves he looks like being a good capture for Paul Byron's side.
