THE Government should give more money for local police, says Tory election challenger Alex Williams.

Mr Williams, prospective Parliamentary candidate for Bury South, said: "The tapering of grants to support the Government's new police community support officers, adverse Government funding formulas in the past and the threat of budget capping will mean that it will be almost impossible for the GMP to fund the numbers of police we need.

"A future Conservative Government is committed to providing more than 2,000 extra policemen in Greater Manchester. I call upon the Government to ensure that the excellent work by police in Whitefield, Prestwich and Radcliffe is not hampered by lack of Government aid."
