EXTRA police will be out on the streets tonight for the re-scheduled Burnley verses Liverpool FA Cup clash.

Officers will be carrying out high visibility patrols throughout the evening because of the number of fans expected to watch the match.

The popularity of the fixture, postponed from last week, has also led the police and football club to advise fans to arrive early and that firm action will be taken against troublemakers.

Insp Dave Croll from Burnley police said: "This is an exciting FA cup tie and we are expecting thousands of fans to come along and support their team.

"Extra police officers are being deployed firstly to reassure local visitors to the town and secondly to ensure that, if there is any rowdy behaviour, and at this moment in time we have no reason to suspect there will be, that we can respond to it very quickly.

"The aim of the match policing operation and our advice to fans, is simply to ensure that everyone enjoys the game in safety and has a good night."
