ADE Akinbiyi helped Burnley roar back to winning ways against QPR at Turf Moor last night.

Clarets boss Steve Cotterill paid tribute to the striker after his deadly double took his impressive tally to four goals in just six starts for his new club.

"Strikers thrive off confidence and another two goals will do Ade the power of good," insisted Cotterill, whose recent signing from Stoke City is wasting no time paying back the first chunk of his £600,000 transfer fee.

"That's four goals now and he might even have had a hat-trick, but we mustn't be greedy because beggars can't be choosers.

"We are delighted with his goals, but more than that we're delighted with his contribution because there is never a lost cause with Ade.

"He gets everything he deserves in life because the kid is an absolute diamond and only those who have worked with him will know that."

Akinbiyi's brace earned the Clarets their first win in four games against a young Rangers side decimated by a catalogue of injuries and suspensions.

And Cotterill admitted: "We knew it was gong to be a tough night when we saw their team sheet. "There were a few names that we didn't know and all credit goes to them because their young boys put on a brave show.

"We know what it feels like to have four or five names out of the starting line-up and I have great sympathy with (QPR manager) Ian Holloway, but we'll take the rub of the green when we have it."

The Clarets chief added: "We knew we needed that first goal because if they got it, it was going to be a tough night for us.

"When it came it was almost a carbon copy of last Saturday's goal following a great header by Graham Branch, who has arguably been our best player for four or five games now."

Akinbiyi wrapped up all three points with a second goal nine minutes from time following a sweeping three-man move.

Meanwhile, Burnley's youth team have been rewarded with home advantage in the Alliance Youth Cup final against Swindon Town next month.

The Clarets earned their shot at some silverware with last weekend's penalty shoot-out victory in the northern final over Oldham Athletic, following an amazing 5-5 draw.

And Terry Pashley's youngsters will now be hoping that supporters turn out in force to see them face the southern winners on Bank Holiday Monday, May 2, at Turf Moor (kick-off 7pm).
