A GETAWAY car used in a £40,000 Securicor raid has been found by police.

Officers conducting searches of back streets in areas around Blackburn town centre found the green Rover 620 in an alley off Dunsop Street, Bastwell.

The car was towed away yesterday for a forensic examination in a bid to trace the robbers.

Two men pounded on a Securicor guard delivering cash to the HSBC bank in Morrisons supermarket, Railway Road, Blackburn, last Tuesday.

Police were due to find out today whether the car, registration L905 LVV, was stolen.

The recovery of the getaway car has helped fill in missing details of the robbers' movements.

Officers knew two masked teenagers had snatched the cash box from the Securicor guard before being driven off in the Rover up Penny Street.

But now they believe the vehicle continued either straight up Whalley New Road or through Barbara Castle Way and side streets to Bastwell, before being abandoned.

In addition, the discovery means the robbers will have most likely been driven off in another vehicle from Bastwell.

Det Sgt Paul Ryan, of Blackburn CID, said: "We are appealing to any members of the public who have knowledge of the vehicle or know where the offenders went next to come forward as soon as possible."

The two teenagers were slight, about 5ft 9ins and wearing light hooded tops with dark trousers and trainers.
