A POLICE invetigation has been launched into the death of an eight-month-old boy who was found lifeless in the bath by his mother.

An inquest heard Aadal Sarwar was being bathed by his mother Rukhsana Kusar when she left him sitting in a bathing seat.

East Lancashire Coroner's officer Bob Wilson said she returned shortly afterwards to find the tot lifeless.

He was taken to Burnley General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police today said that following the incident, on Wednesday, April 13they had launched a probe. They said they had spoken Mrs Kusar and Aadal's father Mubashar Sarwar, who live in Chatham Street, Nelson.

The couple are now staying at another address in the town.

An inquest opened into Aadal's death at Burnley Magistrates Court was told a post mortem examination had been carried out by paediatrician Dr Melanie Newbold and Home Office pathologist Dr Naomi Carter but the cause of death was not yet known.

The inquest was adjourned while further tests were carried out.

Detective Inspector Dermott Horrigan, of Nelson CID, said police were keeping an open mind and would be carrying out further inquiries in the coming weeks.

He said: "There is a police investigation taking place as there is in all deaths of these kind.

"We are talking to the parents to get a fuller picture of what happened.

"There are still some tests from the post mortem examination the pathologist wants to carry out and the results could not be known for a few weeks.

"We are keeping an open mind to what did take place but at this stage it's too early to comment further."
