BURY South Lib Dem candidate Vic D'Albert has appealed directly to carers, the disabled and the elderly to support the creation of a care alliance.

Coun Vic D'Albert, who is disabled and campaigned against the closure of old folks' homes and budget cuts to the Re:d Centre in Bury, said: "No-one can be in any doubt that we are in the midst of a crisis in care provision in Bury.

"When you consider the events that preceded the current crisis, namely the closure of elderly persons homes and consider the Government's planned review of disability benefits, then I believe a worrying pattern is emerging."

He added: "I believe those who have a genuine interest in supporting, protecting and fighting for the disabled and the elderly or infirm should now come together in a care alliance, to put a united case and campaign for better funding for the cared, better support for carers and better working conditions for the professionals."
