NOT for the first time, the arrogance of Bury Council would be unbelievable if it was not so blatantly obvious. Our "Best and getting better - official" leaders find it impossible to admit they are wrong.

The matter of the illegally-worded Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) does not need a judicial review or a re-think, as reported. The wording does not require correction at the next re-print. Motorists are being illegally ticketed now and the notices need correcting now.

More appeals against these tickets, which continue to be issued, is only going to waste more taxpayers' money, something our leaders seem to be expert at.

Councillor Mike Connolly, as the man in charge, seems to be totally oblivious to the stress and anxiety these incidents cause to people.

The latest price rise in parking fees - as always - is a built-in scam. The council will quite understandably deny it, but it is the case.

People park their vehicles and pay for their ticket but if the previous fee was, say, £1 for one hour and it has recently gone up to £1.20, the ticket machine merely accepts your £1 coin but then issues a ticket for only 30 minutes. It does not give change, so the innocent motorist remains unaware of the time limit unless he checks the ticket - which clearly the majority do not! They check their watch against the parking time they think they have just purchased.

The inevitable result? They return to their car after, say, 40 minutes to be greeted by a £60 fine notice.

There are many things wrong with the current parking system and regime in Bury, but I strongly feel that the most serious one is the refusal of the authorities to accept that any faults and problems exist.

"Good and getting better - official!" is surely the joke of the year.
