I AM writing to register my disgust at the 1940s event at Bolton Street Station, Bury.

It was presented to remember those who fought and died for their King and country in World War Two. The organisers went to a lot of trouble with stalls and entertainment.

All this was marred by many young men strutting about in German SS uniforms, proudly having their photographs taken with visitors.

I was shocked, as were many other people I spoke to. Shivers went down my spine seeing so many dressed in this offensive manner.

What an insult to the whole proceedings.

Lots of people had made such an effort with costumes, and looked wonderful. What a pity about the thoughtless others who spoilt it for so many.

These "proud" young men should visit Auschwitz and give more thought to what they wear in the future.
