A PENSIONER was taken to hospital with serious injuries after his car was involved in a head-on smash with another vehicle.

The 69-year-old had to be cut out of a silver Ford Fiesta by firefighters, following the collision in Crompton Way, Astley Bridge, at 6.15pm on Sunday.

The man sustained injuries to his legs, arms, back, chest and neck in the horror smash.

Another man, driving a black Mercedes C180, was also taken to Royal Bolton Hospital.
