TWO out of three schools in Prestwich and Whitefield visited by the Government’s education watchdog were found to be inadequate.
Ofsted inspectors gave Park View Primary in Prestwich and All Saints CE Stand bottom marks meaning they need external support to provide a satisfactory education to pupils.
But overall, schools in the whole of the borough have shown improvement despite being marked under a new controversial stricter framework.
New figures for schools visited in the last autumn term show that six out of 10 schools were given the top two grades.
Ian Chambers, assistant director (learning) at Bury Council, said: “Despite the challenges of a new inspection framework which is a tougher test than previously, Bury schools overall have continued to improve.
“We have however seen two primary schools moved into an inadequate category last term by Ofsted. Both have been receiving support from the local authority since their inspections and monitoring visits by Ofsted this term to both schools have shown good or satisfactory progress on the key issues they are working to improve.”
The 10 schools were visited between September 1 and December 31 last year.
Nationally more schools were judged as inadequate. Half of the 2,140 schools inspected were either satisfactory or inadequate.
The school in the borough judged as outstanding was Millwood Special School; good were a pupil referral unit, St Mary’s CE in Hawkshaw, Chesham Primary School, Elton High School in Walshaw, and Prestwich Arts College; satisfactory were Peel Brow in Ramsbottom, Springside Primary.
Park View Primary has been given a notice to improve and All Saints CE Primary has been put into special measures.
